THE SOCIAL MISFIT-2
The social misfit PART-2
The other day I tried telling someone who lives near my home about my fixation of routes when I walk. I gave an example of how I have a very strict fixed route for my post dinner walk, to which this person said- "I do that too, I have a route ( which was explained) to keep a track of how much I walked"
This immediately shut me down not being able to explain at the moment how the two are different. The person kindly said everyone has a little neurodivergence.
What I could explain that day ( because of a "shutdown") is that my post dinner walk is strategised not to count how much I walk but by the rule that I create a closed loop of the route and each loop should cover each winding lane twice once I finish the loop. I mark the turning point of a street by counting the number of manhole covers and walking only in a sharp rectangular edge to edge street turn.
This is an example of one of the nth routes I have in my system . Each with its own rules. In all the cities and places I have been.
Beginning to sound like Im nuts? Good! Good! Not everyone is a little neurodivergent then!
The internet just provides you with bullet point stuff about what neurodivergence might seem like. My fixation with routes is a classic ASD symptom which is one of the coping mechanism of my need for routine, method, order, precision, pattern. It is also is clear display of OCPD ( not equal to OCD) which naturally can tackle some of my ADHD. No bullet point will explain this. Neurodivergence is a package of little packages...ask me about it..if you relate, or care to find out !
